Mike Nunez

   On July 1st, a memorial service was held for Mike Nunez at Hostos Center for the Performing Arts.  Steve was asked to play a few solemn numbers for the event.  Mike Nunez was a pioneer in the development of the South Bronx Economic Development Corporation, which helped to build and initiate much needed business and restoration projects during the eighties and nineties.  Considered to be a legend amongst the business elite he was 74 when he passed away.

Somos El Future National Conference

Saturday  - April 24, 2004  

 

 

 

     Steve and his Quintet performed for the Annual Somos El Futuro Conference which was held in Albany, New York, in the dinner room of the City Center.

 

   On hand was a great consortium of political dignitaries and community leaders, centered on achieving a plan for the new year in politics.  Among them of course were Hilary Clinton and Charles Schumer.

Mercy College 18th Annual Fundraiser Dinner Dance

Tuesday - March 26, 2004 at the Mandarin Oriental  

 

 

    On March 26th, 2004, Mercy College hired the Latin Jazz Society Ensemble to play at the Mandarin Oriental located on 60 Columbus circle, overlooking Central Park South.   

    Among the many politicians that were in attendance, here Council Joel Rivera from the Bronx, is pictured with Dr. Harvey Kaye, the Dean of Affairs for the newly built Bronx Campus, and Maureen Osborne, from Dobbs Ferry.

    Steve played a nice mix of Jazz, Latin Jazz, Bossa nova, and Salsa for this prestigious event, which also celebrated many of New York's leading educators and politicians.

 

 

     Many of the participants were treated to an exclusive wine tasting session, while other pieces of art were auctioned as a benefit to the college fund.

    The event was held in celebration and honor of the new Chancellor of the New York City Public School system,  Mr. Joel Klein.

Bob and Estelle Stewart are the organizers and promoters of the New Rochelle Public Library Concert Series.  Bob himself has been a singer in the Jazz world for over 50 years, and is well known in the Big Band circles.

 A few days later, Steve and the Latin Jazz Society were bringing in the New Year at Tito Puente's in City Island, New York.

Ronnie Puente who was also present that night decided to get into the action and played "Para TI" with Steve, as the audience looked on and cheered with wild enthusiasm!
